The Ship Inn, Herne Bay. A Grade II 14th century Inn steeped in history, located idyllically on the town's seafront, with uninterrupted sea views.
The small hamlet which developed around the pub became home to a fishing community, and later on as a beaching point for goods being transported by boat, to and from London, as well as coal from Newcastle.
The Ship was an infamous smuggler's haunt right up until the 1820's, and was also used as an entertainment venue for the troops during the Napoleonic Wars, when a battery of guns were placed on the Down.
The Ship Inn today enjoys a friendly local crowd of mixed ages, diners from the surrounding areas, and a healthy number of tourists from the UK and abroad. In the warmer months our outside deck is quite possibly the best place to sit and relax with a cold beer or bottle of wine, while looking out across the beach to the old pier, wind farms and forts. Being on the Saxon Shoreway, we're popular with cyclists, walkers and dog friendly (excluding the restaurant).
Our bar offers everything you'd expect, from ales such as Adnam's Ghost Ship and Doom Bar, draught and bottled lagers including Birra Moretti, Amstel, Estrella and Peroni, as well as an excellent gin selection, wines and soft drinks.
We're incredibly proud of our food, sourcing locally where possible, and offer a varied menu of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, with our Sunday Roast proving ever popular (booking always advised). Chef's Specials board is updated regularly, come in to the pub or call us to enquire.
COVID-19 GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS APPLY. HYGIENE REGULATIONS WILL BE PRACTISED. PLEASE RESPECT SOCIAL DISTANCING RULES. PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN PPE.
